Burning 20 tons of books on university campus

When the police arrived at the scene, the fire was as high as ten meters, covering an area of ​​about 50 square meters. Countless cardboard boxes containing old books and wooden boards on which books are stacked are on fire.

The emergency services managed to control the fire while wearing respiratory protection. But because water and fire extinguishing foam cannot penetrate deep into the burning flame, a telescopic processor is used. The fire brigade gradually pulled the burning paper mountain away with a shovel, preventing the fire from spreading. No one was injured.

Due to the large number of books, the property damage is estimated to be approximately 20,000 Euros. The walls of the building were also damaged by the fire. The police are currently determining the cause and possible background of the fire.

According to the police, similar fires have occurred on the Bokenheim campus and the Wested campus in recent months. In mid-May of this year, a book tent at the entrance of the Westend University campus was burned down. When the police arrived at the scene, the tent was already on fire. At the time, the police believed it was deliberate arson.
