It is absurd to hear the frenzied excitement of right-wing politicians and media reporters about Trump becoming the Republican presidential nomination and re-election in 2024. These loyal, fearful people talk about him as if he is young, healthy, masculine, and capable, and will not be in danger of trial or imprisonment by 2024. The Department of Justice and the January 6 committee are conducting a large-scale investigation into the rebellion, and Trump’s possible role in planning and organizing the attack. The District Attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, is considering convening a grand jury to investigate his attempt to steal the 2020 election. His “stop stealing” mantra is an encouraging move to cover up his actual attempts to steal voting rights from Joe Biden.
The success of the committee on January 6 depends on the Justice Department prosecuting witnesses who disregarded the subpoena issued by the committee. Legal experts including Harvard law professor and constitutional scholar Lawrence Tribble questioned why Attorney General Merrick Garland did not decide to sue Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress by refusing to comply with the subpoena to testify. It has raised concerns that Garland may be Robert Mueller 2.0; thorough, ethical, and capable, but he is unwilling to take bold actions against Trump and senior officials. When his opponent brought AR15, was he another Democrat who took part in the battle with a water gun?
The federal judge’s ruling overturned Trump’s claims of presidential privileges that could be used to prevent the National Archives from publishing White House records surrounding the January 6 uprising. He desperately concealed evidence from the committee that he is most likely to feel guilty about the plan, organization, and sanctions of the anti-constitutional attack on our democracy on January 6. Records may show that Trump and members of Congress cooperated and colluded during the MAGA mob’s attempt to prevent the transfer of power to the newly elected president from the constitutional peace. According to reports, Trump is excited about the aggressiveness and scale of the crowd. He ignored any attempts to sympathize or defend Congress and the Washington DC police, who fought to defend Congressmen and were brutally injured and several people died because his mob said they were just doing what Trump told them to do matter.
However, Trump expressed sympathy for Ashley Babbitt, a thug who was shot and killed when he violently broke into the Capitol in an area where congressmen gathered. He called the thugs patriots because they supported his “big lie” and made Babbitt a fallen hero and defender of democracy. Does the American judicial system have the integrity and courage to hold Trump and his supporters accountable for crimes that endanger our democracy? Are Facebook and Twitter responsible for the spread of false information and the increase in violence and division in the country? If the judicial system fails to defend democracy, the United States will become a one-party authoritarian state ruled by criminals, conspiracy theorists, and traitors. This is not an exaggeration. Dozens of people connected to the former dictatorship have been sentenced to jail, prosecuted, are under investigation, or lose their jobs or licenses. Does this sound like the US government or a mob group?
No president in history has tried to overthrow an election and reinstate himself illegally. No former president of the United States has incited violence against members of Congress. No other president has told more than 20,000 provable lies. No president will start his followers violently against his opponents with aggressive dog whistle, thereby threatening the people mercilessly. No other president has been accused of sexual assault by more than 25 women. No other US president has conducted as many criminal and civil investigations against him as Trump. Trump’s character pathology is an explanation of his heinous performance as president. He will lose everything in the end, because the fanatical leader of the cult will not be the winner in the end.
