Draft alliance agreement decided in Saxony-Anhalt

DThe leaders of the CDU, the Social Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party in Saxony-Anhalt have reached an agreement on a draft joint agreement. The party leader announced on Monday. Members of the CDU and the Social Democratic Party must now decide on the draft and hold a party congress for the Liberal Democratic Party.

Negotiators from the three parties expressed their belief over the weekend that they can conclude the negotiations this Monday. In fact, the black-red-yellow negotiations should have ended on Sunday.

In the next step, the parties will send the draft joint agreement to the grassroots. In the case of the CDU and the SPD, members then decide whether to join the CDU, SPD, and Liberal Democratic Party’s first coalition in 61 years. If it is the Liberal Party, it is decided by the Party Congress. If everyone agrees, the new coalition can re-elect the current head of government Reina Haseloff (CDU) as prime minister of the state legislature on September 16.

After two deliberately harmonious negotiations in the first week, the mood at the beginning of the third week and in fact the last week of negotiations have deteriorated. One of the reasons for this situation is that the two parties saved the dispute to the end. In order to still be able to complete on time, the negotiating team increased its workload significantly as it approached the weekend.

In the third week of negotiations, the top teams alone held meetings for nearly 30 hours, of which 15 hours were from Friday to Saturday. On Thursday, a small group of people talked about the cuts and distribution of ministries. On Friday morning, Social Democratic Party Chairman Julian Kleeman and Andreas Schmidt expressed anger because the details of the meeting had been leaked to the public. The Social Democratic Party emphasized on Friday that only after other issues have been resolved, the allocation of departments can be determined.
