“Not only do you have a high cost of living in the state, the tax rate is the worst, the business tax is the worst, people are told they can’t live, they can’t go to the store, and they can’t go to church,” Durr told Carlson. “You died in a nursing home. It just became a combination of everything. I was fed up. I said,’I won’t leave this state. I want to repair this state. That’s what I chose to do.”
When Tucker asked him about his success, he humbly made sure that he knew the people who helped him and other colleagues who won other not-so-obtrusive seats.
Duerr tells Tucker the concession call he eventually got from Sweeney. But it was Durr’s response that showed the difference and why Durr had such a promise. He said Sweeney was a “gentleman” on the phone.
“He congratulated me and wished me luck, [told me] Do good things for South Jersey,” Durr said.
“I told him, you know, if he needs anything, just call me because I am his representative now,” Durr replied.
This put Tucker in a difficult position. Talk about the perfect and savage response—believe that he represents everyone in his area—yes, even his opponent. Hope we have more people representing us like this.
