AVM FRITZ!Box Router Didn’t get a lot of attention in the UK, but they are great devices with an excellent feature set, including a phone system for DECT, IP and analog telephony.
I’m currently reviewing the FRITZ!Box 4060 WiFi 6 router and FRITZ!Repeater 6000 WiFi mesh repeater and they should work well in the UK market.However, AVM showed off new hardware at MWC that UK buyers are unlikely to use
The new FRITZ!Box 5590 is designed to work with the increasing number of FTTH connections (fiber to the home). Its main selling point is the SFP slot, which will be equipped with two SFP modules for Active Optical Network (AON) or Passive Optical Network (PON) with a maximum transfer rate of 1 Gbit/s .
However, an SFP+ module will also be produced, which can handle connections up to 10 GBit/s.
Then the router has one 2.5GbE port and three Gigabit ports. Then it has Wi-Fi 6 with 4×4 radios and up to 80Mhz channel support, which means clients can connect at 1,200 MBit/s, but the total throughput could be 2,400 MBit/s.
The reason we’re unlikely to see this in the UK is because ISPs can lock you into their own hardware, whereas in Germany it’s legal to use any router you want. Currently, Zen is the only company using AVM and they offer the FRITZ!Box 7530.

Box 7590 AX is available, it can take full advantage of DSL networks with 35b super vector and Wi-Fi 6. Fritz! Box 4060, AVM showcased a Wi-Fi 6 capable tri-band wireless router ideal for connecting to fiber or cable modems. In addition to the powerful Smart Mesh Wi-Fi and 2.5 Gb WAN port, the wireless routers in this product category are the first to integrate DECT for smart home devices and phones.along with Fritz! Box 6850 5G, AVM showcased an all-in-one home network router that can be used on all European 5G networks – standalone and non-standalone. With fast Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN and phone and smart home base stations, it provides full convenience for 5G and 3G/4G internet.
