DAchieving carbon dioxide goals, fair trade relations and rational use of resources occupy an important place on the German socio-political agenda, especially for young people. In the sustainable reorganization of society-everyone agrees-vocational training plays a central role. But the Training market The losses have been heavy recently.
According to their own information, from October 2020 to July 2021, there were approximately 404,400 applicants for apprenticeships registered in employment agencies and employment centers, a decrease of nearly 35,000 from the same period last year. At the same time, the decline does not mean that there are fewer young people interested in vocational training. On the contrary, many reports have not been made, so it is said from Nuremberg that “because the usual access route is compromised, it cannot be completely replaced by digital alternatives”.
It’s not just about “green jobs”
There are still about 127,000 applicants who have not been placed. At the same time, approximately 484,700 training positions were registered, which is approximately 14,300 fewer than a year ago. Nearly 194,000 registered training positions remained vacant in July. Therefore, we must do our best to revitalize the training market. In terms of sustainability, it seems worthwhile to pay attention to the interests of young people!

By the Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and Employment Research Institute The Institute of the Federal Employment Agency (IAB) in Nuremberg clearly stated that during the transition to a “green economy”, majors in architecture, geology, geography and environmental protection, majors in technology and science, and majors in logistics are mainly relevant. Obviously, measures to promote a “green economy” are currently facing bottlenecks in the labor market.
Sustainability is a broad field
It should also be considered: in this case, it is not just an activity in the field of renewable energy, electric vehicles or “green” professionals. On the contrary, sustainability in the sense of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted by the United Nations in 2015 affects all professions. A comprehensive understanding of sustainability shows that in this sense, young people should participate in the further development of the economy and operations. Therefore, sustainability training aims to cultivate a reflective and responsible personality-so it is equally attractive to young people and companies. In this context, new standard job positions in federal training regulations related to sustainability, environmental protection, and digitalization will be seen.
The main committee of the Federal Vocational Training Institute made its decision last year. They have established minimum standards, which will take effect on August 1, 2021, so that new or newly classified occupations in the future will be based on these standards. Companies and vocational schools are also required to develop in this direction in all occupations. This takes into account the new requirements that the company must face, because the structure is changing and the wishes of customers are also changing.
In summary, it is obvious that only technically and methodologically qualified trainers can promote the necessary professional skills of skilled workers in the future. Because the trainer communicates professional competence, it also creates a sense of values that can achieve sustainable professional actions. The way you design your learning content is to allow students to weigh their methods based on ecological, economic and social impacts. Sustainability is a vast field-every day it needs to pay more and more to cultivate.
