Let’s take a closer look at the different broadband technologies on the market.
Wired Broadband Technology
If you didn’t already know, various communication technologies are used to provide Broadband for the Digital Home. This is done by using wired technologies such as coaxial cable, copper cable, fiber optic and power line.

Copper wire is generally defined as the so-called traditional telephone unshielded copper twisted pair. These copper wires use state-of-the-art xDSL technology to provide a stable internet connection. These include ADSL and ADSL2+.
This provides a maximum of 24 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. In addition, the efficiency range is 0.3 km, and the downlink vector rate is 300 Mbps and the uplink vector rate is 100 Mbps. The vector range is 0.2 km.
Advantages of copper wire
In order to use copper wires, low investment and provision of passive infrastructure are required. These also provide minimal disruption to service.
Disadvantages of copper wire
When it comes to download speeds, it largely depends on the length of the copper wire. Since xDSL technology is asymmetric, most of the time upload speeds are low compared to download speeds. As a result, services such as video conferencing, telepresence, telecommuting and cloud computing will be hindered.
Essentially, implementing this infrastructure requires a higher investment. While this is a potential solution, it could be discontinued for up to 15 years.
Sustainability of Copper Wire
In terms of sustainability, copper technology can provide higher speeds. However, this has several limitations.So now the bridging technology is being deployed to make the system run on it optical fiber if only.
coaxial cable
These are called two wires or twisted pairs of telephone lines. Unlike others, these usually suffer from a range of distractions. However, this service is only available to customers who still have internet access via coax.
So the customer will also use the CATV network or rather cable TV. Coaxial cables are made of a copper core and a shield made of copper. Therefore, TV networks are much more efficient than traditional networks.
Advantages of coaxial cable
To invest in this, companies need to put in very low investment to get passive infrastructure. Unlike others, there is less disruption to the end user and more opportunities are provided by the infrastructure. It just means that users on broadband networks can access higher speeds or even superfast speeds.
Disadvantages of coaxial cable
One of the main problems with this is that bandwidth is shared among multiple users. As a result, this affects availability during high-traffic periods. Therefore, competition within the cable market is limited. One of the solutions to these problems is to invest in fiber optic technology.
Sustainability of coaxial cables
With new and upcoming standards, higher bandwidth is allowed. Therefore, users can access up to 10 Gbps.
Powerline Broadband
These power lines will ensure broadband is easily provided. Even service is provided through medium and low voltage grids.Therefore, the speed is similar to coaxial cable and xDSL.
Advantages of over power lines
If you are considering using these, no new infrastructure is required as existing lines can be used. Unlike other products, these product lines have higher potential.
Disadvantages of over power lines
In less populated areas, these are financially suitable for households equipped with transformers. However, a maximum of 6 homes should be installed to ensure service is provided over the power line. If for some reason this isn’t done, users can expect to pay a fortune compared to coax and xDSL services.
Also, if the power cord is located in a noisy area, there are some technical challenges.
optical fiber
These lines are made of special fiberglass and are connected directly to the user’s home. Additionally, they can be attached to street cabinets and buildings if desired. Fiber allows rates up to 100 Gbps and provides efficiencies from 10 to 60 kilometers. Due to the capabilities of fiber optics, this solution is considered one of the future.
Advantages of Fiber Optics
The transfer rate is much higher and the signal flows smoothly. Essentially, the drop in power is less likely and can last for longer distances.
Disadvantages of Fiber Optics
The initial investment in this is very high, and the excavation of the pipeline is even more expensive. Also, the infrastructure requires precise documentation as it is not easy to find.
