review – I recently discovered that when I’m not adequately hydrated, my blood sugar spikes are higher than normal. So as my gadget maker, I decided to buy a gadget to motivate me to drink water throughout the day. My gadget of choice is the HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle. Let’s see if it works or if I’m still feeling dry.

The HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle uses visual alerts and audible notifications on your phone to remind you to drink water.

Design and Features
The HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle is available in a variety of colors, but I chose the dark blue version you see here. The bottle consists of 3 parts: the cap, the bottle itself and the charger module.
First, there’s a lid with a quick lock/open slide latch.
The lid of the HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle flips open to reveal a large spout for your favorite cold drink (you shouldn’t put hot drinks in this bottle).
The lid is easy to screw on and off and comes with a non-removable canvas strap.
The HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle is available in 17-ounce and 21-ounce versions.The bottle itself is a BPA free vacuum insulated stainless steel bottle designed to keep beverages cold for 24 hours without sweating.
The bottom of the HidrateSpark PRO smart kettle has two features. This is an LED smart sensor puck that glows when you drink water. It also contains the charger module for the smart bottle.
When charging is required, the charger module is easily removed.
Charging the HidrateSpark PRO Smart Kettle requires the included proprietary charging cable.
The cable connects to the charging module via magnets, and the module has built-in LEDs to provide visible charging status. The HidrateSpark PRO can be charged for 10-14 days of normal daily use.
Track your water intake
To stay hydrated and keep track of your water, the first thing you need to do is wash the bottle. Note that only the lid is dishwasher safe. The bottle is hand wash only, never wash the sensor disc.
The next step is to fill the bottle with water or other cold (not hot) beverage, charge the sensor disc, and install the HidrateSpark app on your phone.
Spark application
The app lets you set the amount of water you want to drink each day and syncs with your water bottle via Bluetooth every time you pick it up and put it back in place.
The app also allows you to set the notification glow type, color, and when reminders are needed. Note that reminders will also appear on your phone.
You can fine-tune recorded data and participate in challenges.

final thoughts
As a water bottle, I found the HidrateSpark PRO Smart Water Bottle to be well made and easy to use. The lid is easy to open and close. The built-in sensor on the bottom is a cool way to remind you to keep drinking throughout the day. I do find notifications/reminders/nags a little annoying after a while. Another annoyance is the inability to put the entire bottle in the dishwasher. Another annoyance is that the charger module has to be removed from the bottom of the bottle to charge it. I think it would be great if the bottle had wireless charging coasters.
All these little annoyances add up to make me stop using the bottle. I keep track of the total number of glasses of water I drink throughout the day by smearing small drops in my journal. Low tech yes, but easier for me.
