Honor Magic4 Pro vs OPPO Find X5 Pro & X3 Pro Benchmarks and Battery – Testing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with SD888

I am making this performance comparison purely because I am reviewing these two Honor Magic4 Pro and OPPO Find X5 Pro.

The two phones have similar specs, so in theory they should offer similar performance, but software optimizations might make a difference.

I also added historical data from the old phone.In some cases I’ll be reusing old tables, so some equipment is mixed, but I’ve made sure to include OPPO Find X3 Prowhich will provide a good comparison between generations of chipsets.

My full review of the Honor Magic4 Pro and OPPO Find X5 Pro will be online in the next few days.

For the results of AnTuTu, I have no record of OPPO Find X3 Pro, so I can only use the official results from the official website of AnTuTu.

Compared with the previous generation, the new OPPO Find X5 Pro has a moderate improvement in performance, with a difference of 8.4%.

The Honor then rocketed to 11% better than the Find X5 Pro, setting the trend for other benchmarks.

Geekbench similarly shows where both brands are headed in terms of performance. The Honor has huge single-core speeds, a 10% improvement over last year’s OnePlus 9 Pro.

OPPO was more conservative, and the results were lower than some of last year’s phones, only a 5% increase over the X3 Pro.

Honor’s single-core results are very close to the Redmagic 7, which shows that they are pushing the chipset to its limits.

Multicore results remain largely unchanged across generations.

Again, we see OPPO taking a more conservative approach when it comes to performance. I thought this would improve stability and the phone was unlikely to hit peak temperatures, but it didn’t.

Again, Glory pushes things to the limit and peaks results higher than focusing on gaming Red Devils 7. However, without active cooling, it couldn’t hold this score for long, and the stability score was much lower.

Both OPPO and Honor have improved a lot compared to the previous Snapdragon 888. Compared with the X5 Pro, the high score of the X3 Pro has increased by 65%, and the low score is higher than the high score of the X3 Pro.

Stability is about the same across generations, only the Pixel 6 with the Tensor chipset drops significantly.

PCMark always has odd results because it depends on how the company sets the frequency for certain tasks. Some brands also dial back performance when running battery tests.

In this case, OPPO once again took a more reserved approach, scoring lower than its predecessor. However, the benefit of this is a massive increase in its battery performance.

OPPO’s battery performs surprisingly well, considering that OPPO’s battery performance score is so high.

power saving mode

After running the test and partially writing it, I realized that OPPO seems to have power saving turned on by default, while Honor does not.

Once again, the two phones handle things quite differently.

With power saving mode disabled, OPPO’s performance is slightly improved. AnTuTu only increased by 4.5% to 880534, and Geekbench single-core score increased by only 1.3% to 989.

Honor significantly reduces performance. Geekbench dropped to 860 and 29%. Similarly, AnTuTu’s score dropped to only 737712, a drop of 21%.

Both phones also have a performance mode, and I didn’t run benchmarks in this mode, but for a quick comparison, I tested AnTuTu:

  • OPPO Find X5 Pro increased to 964477 (+14%)
  • Honor Magic4 Pro increased to 974703 (+3.8%)

Over the next few days, I’ll re-run all other tests, including the battery test, to see how much of a difference these settings make.

I think the Honor’s battery life will increase significantly, and if so, I’d prefer this approach to the OPPO, where the performance difference is minimal.

I’ve tested three phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 so far, and each company is taking a different approach to this powerful chipset.

Early impressions of the Honor Magic4 Pro are very good, and it seems to offer a good balance of high performance and battery life.

While the OPPO may not look that impressive, I personally prefer efficiency over performance. Phones are so powerful these days that I don’t really need them to be at full speed for most things, and I expect them to be comfortable to use all day. For gaming, you can switch it to performance mode, which seems to boost performance to the same level as the Honor.
