The metaverse is one of the biggest technological trends shaping our future. Interior design is adapting to the metaverse, starting with the principle that a house must reflect its owner.
The term “metaverse” was first coined by Neil Stephenson in his 1992 book Avalanche. While it is fundamental to our understanding of the metaverse, there are many competing definitions of what it actually is.

Zyva Studio is a Paris-based design studio that explores the possibilities of creating for virtual worlds. Many of the company’s designs look otherworldly, as if they were made for superhumans and gods. Founder Anthony Authié coined the term “cross-design” to express his feeling that his work comes from multiple levels, such as fiction and various subcultures.
The potential of the metaverse is perhaps best expressed in French sociologist Jean Baudrillard’s concept of “surreal”, in which symbols and representations lack primordial references. The metaverse has a hard time distinguishing between what is real and what is a simulation of reality.
This is true even if the metaverse allows for the creation of a world completely different from reality. A world where things can bend and twist into unfathomable shapes and angles, footballs taste like oranges, mountains are made of sugar, and skins are as crisp as glass. Metaverse intensifies our conception of the world. Our idea of reality disappears from the air. It’s a space where our furniture can wink and smile at us.
The metaverse allows us to express our identity more fully than in the real world, or at a time when you may not be ready to reveal your identity to the world. By seeing identity as something fluid, it allows people to be more creative about who they are, to free themselves from the shackles of submissiveness, and to reach out for a higher sense of self.
