DDutch customs has 3 tons in the port of Rotterdam cocaine Street sales were found to be 225 million euros. Prosecutors said on Friday that the drug was found in a container from Ecuador two days ago, contained between barrels of mashed bananas.

The container was prepared for a company in Basel, and investigators believe it may not have anything to do with smuggling. This is one of the largest cocaine discoveries in the Port of Rotterdam. The drug has been destroyed.

Prosecutors said that regardless of the latest drug discovery, 12 employees of a container company were arrested in the Port of Rotterdam on suspicion of cocaine smuggling and corruption in the past few weeks. The ten men and two women are said to have used their knowledge of the port to import and further transport cocaine and extract drugs from containers.

As the Dutch customs announced the day before, about 50 tons of drugs were confiscated in the first half of 2021 and these drugs were shipped to Dutch ports. The Netherlands itself confiscated about 22 tons, and customs investigators have found 28 tons abroad.

In order to curb drug smuggling from the Netherlands, the authorities have been stepping up inspections of foreign postal mail since last summer. Customs officials said that approximately 8,000 letters and packages containing drugs were found.
