Made a mistake.
This is my conclusion from Kristi Noem’s CPAC Dallas talk, she thinks it’s a good idea to shoot there Ron DeSantis Exceeding COVID policy. The governor of South Dakota and possibly hopefuls attacked DeSantis in 2024, demanding that the beach be closed, and implying that he was lying when he said that Florida was not blocked.
Before I explain why this was a big mistake for Noem, this is the text of the comment.

Let’s talk about the substance here, because I think it is both misleading and not necessarily wrong at the same time. Yes, Florida did close some beaches with COVID hot spots in a short period of time. Nonetheless, this is different from a full and extended blockade, and I think this suggestion is a bit dishonest. In addition, there is a difference between doing something in April 2020 and doing something in April 2021. DeSantis is clearly making decisions in real time and using data. For a while no one really knew what COVID will be. It’s hard to blame any governor for doing something as trivial as closing some beaches for a few weeks in the early stages of the response.
In short, Noam said that her state has fewer lockdowns than Florida, which is not wrong. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that DeSantis’ overall handling of COVID has been excellent.
So why do I think it is wrong to take these photos-even though she may have some superficial opinions? Because she played too early. She also invited to criticize her own record on COVID, which may be a bigger problem for her in the general election.
DeSantis will compete with Donald Trump in 2024 Primary election. Noem hardly cracked 1-3%. This is just the way, too early, vacillating against the obvious heir, DeSantis is undoubtedly the choice of most Republican voters. Even with a few punches, the effect after three years is not very helpful. When specifically asked about COVID, this is the kind of thing you saved for the debate phase of the Republican primary election at the end of 2023. In 2021, when your own disputes hinder your attractiveness, you will not start to be enemies of the top Republicans.
Another problem is that South Dakota’s COVID death rate is much higher than Florida, ranking 10th. By saying that she made the “right” decision early on without mitigation measures at all, Noem opened her heart to the counterattack, and her decision was actually not correct at all.
Norm will do better now to avoid being insulted, just follow the demands of conservatives in her hometown.There will be time for comparison in a few years.
