The fallen tree on the Augsburg playground killed the child

TonThe anger of a family outing in Augsburg ended: A two-year-old was hit by a fallen tree on a playground in the city and was seriously injured. Police said on Sunday that the toddler died in the hospital on Saturday night a few hours after the accident. The child’s mother was also seriously injured by this tree and is currently receiving treatment in the clinic.

It is understood that on Saturday morning, the 22-month-old girl and her mother were playing on the playground of the park. A few meters away was her 5-year-old sister. For unknown reasons, a maple tree with a trunk diameter of about 60 to 80 cm suddenly fell down.

The mother and son were hit and trapped under the tree. Before the rescuers arrived, employees of a company working near the playground used construction machinery to lift the tree and release the 28-year-old and children. The five-year-old was safe and sound and was later taken care of by her father. Both were then taken care of by the crisis intervention team.

With the help of tree experts, the police wanted to find out how the accident happened. The police said that so far, they only knew that the tree broke above the ground and then fell over. Most of the roots of this tree are still in the ground.

According to news on Sunday, Augsburg Mayor Eva Weber said: “This is incredible and shocking. There are few suitable words to describe it.” She also thanked the first responders. “We are with our family, thinking and helping.” The city government “of course will fully support the procuratorate’s investigation to find out the cause of the accident.” According to a city spokesperson, this is a playground in Augsburg in the Oberhausen district.

The area around the playground has been sealed off by the police. Afterwards, the warning sign read: “Please do not enter! People’s safety is not guaranteed.”
