Design and features:
The packaging is good. No scars along the way.

As with most battery-powered gadgets, the first step is charging. Unfortunately, the Launch 129i OBD2 car scan tool has no power supply. The charging port is a 5 volt, 2 amp coaxial socket. If you want to charge and update files without connecting to the vehicle, you must find a power source. I would prefer to include an external power supply, or change the power connector socket to micro-USB or USB-C. In my case, I was able to make a suitable adapter. Charging takes about 4 hours.

There is a speaker on the back of the tool, which will emit different sounds during use.

The Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool manual is well written and rich in content.

Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool can be used out of the box, but I prefer to update the software before use. The database can be easily updated via a Wifi connection, and it takes about an hour for 52 car manufacturers to update the database.

The 129i uses the OBD2 port to connect to the vehicle’s computer.

The installer connects the Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool to Wifi, sets the time zone and configures the tool for use.

The menu is very intuitive.

When connected to a vehicle, the 129i will automatically detect the VIN code, manufacturer, model, and some vehicle characteristics.

On the two vehicles I tested, the Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool prompted me to enter vehicle equipment that was not automatically detected.

If you wish, you can select a vehicle from an extensive on-board database.

After completion, 129i conducted a vehicle health test and showed me many problems encountered by car computers. I found the results to be complete and informative.

The special nature of the test function left a deep impression on me. For my 2008 Smart car, the tool can identify the various modules installed in the car, reset the problem, and allow me to browse dozens of functions individually.

Having said that, it is clear that the function of this tool far exceeds the function of the OBD2 code reader. For serious troubleshooting, the Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool is an excellent beast!

I can easily clear multiple fault codes on my daughter Suzuki.

The Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool not only displays the fault code, but also provides a professional description of the fault.
Depending on the car, many functions can be drawn. This feature is particularly effective for solving annoying problems that may cost a lot of money in dealers or mechanic shops.

In addition, the 129i can reset the oil life, maintenance intervals, tire pressure system, and even the steering angle sensor-great! From the right perspective, about a year ago, my Smart car needed to go to a Mercedes dealership an hour away to deal with sensor issues. A 10-minute job turned into a 3-hour wait and a $250 bill. With 129i, I can do the same job in the garage by myself, saving 5 hours of time, 120 miles of driving and $250. Only on the journey to the dealership, Launch 129i can recover the cost.

The Launch 129i OBD2 car scanning tool can be upgraded with many different software enhancements, but at an additional cost.

what do I like:
- Rich vehicle database
- Automatic vehicle health report
- Very user friendly
What will I change:
- Include a charger or change the charging port type to USB
Final thoughts:
Launch’s 129i OBD2 scanning tool is an excellent addition to any serious car technician or “weekend warrior” garage. For amateur mechanics, the automatic function is excellent. For professionals and enthusiasts, it is a powerful, extensive and easy-to-use tool. If your car is physically damaged, Launch 129i will not repair your car, but it does make it easier for you to find and diagnose problems detected by your car’s computer.
