Bvice-president Wolfgang Schaeuble (CDU) proposes to amend the law so that it is no longer necessary to provide the addresses of party donors in full. This is from Schaeuble’s briefing on the party’s financial development, which was reported by Der Spiegel. It was also announced in advance on the Bundestag website. So far, all parties have had to state in their annual reports the names, addresses, and amount of donations of people who donated more than 10,000 euros in a calendar year.
“In fact, with the apparent increase in the trend, political differences of opinion are proceeding in a more violent and hostile manner, eventually forming information of hatred, threats and even attacks, which proves the understandable and growing need to provide more space for ideas. The demand is reasonable. Data protection,” the report said, which was released in June. “In fact, it’s hard to imagine data that is more sensitive than the combination of information on residence, political preferences, and financial capabilities.”
Schäuble believes that legislators are required to find a solution: “One way may be to make a broader notification or information obligation to party funding agencies, either by not publishing addresses at all, or by specifying residence and zip code restrictions.”
