The island nation hopes to close its borders to people who have not been vaccinated to prevent further increases in corona infections. After being criticized by the European Union, entry is still allowed-whether it is for certificates or quarantine.

Chris Fearne, the Minister of Health of Malta, provided reasons for Friday’s planned border closure due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections. On June 28, about 80% of adults in the island state were fully vaccinated, but there were only 28 active corona cases. However, there were 252 more cases on Friday. Unlike other European countries, the authorities have not attributed the increase in the number of cases in Malta to the highly contagious coronavirus delta variant.
However, the planned border closure has aroused criticism from the European Commission, which fears that EU-wide travel permits will be affected. This provides equal treatment to fully vaccinated people as well as those who have recovered and tested negative.
