The fact is that millions of rational Americans have every right to be confused and doubtful. The people you mentioned, Steve-those who now tell us that we can “as long as everyone is vaccinated, we can return to normal”-that is, the people who say “two weeks to flatten the curve!” People tell us that masks are “useless” before they tell us that masks are “important.” It is these people who tell us that as long as the “most vulnerable” among us are vaccinated, they will return to normal. Then, just when “half of the population” was vaccinated. Then, just after we achieved “herd immunity”. Those who told us that they would not believe any vaccine developed by the previous government. Now these people are belittling the skeptics!
If it were a Peanuts comic, those people would be Lucy, pulling the football away at the last minute, and a country full of Charlie Brown pressed on their collective backs time and time again. The people you are referring to—elected officials, journalists, and, most disturbingly, more than a few medical experts—move goal posts time and time again, while ignoring the rules and restrictions they require all of us to abide by. They are always sure, they are usually wrong, they are not ashamed, and they are not humble at all. Is it no wonder that millions of people think they are not persuasive?
Luo concluded that every American who wants to be vaccinated has the opportunity to vaccinate, and they will not be persuaded by him. He said that if the government really wants to act wisely, they need to put aside politics and celebrities and only provide people with hard and transparent data.
