review – We all learned something about wireless charging: There will always be wires in the mix. And there may be different wires for each of the several different types of wireless chargers. Recently, Mophie released a charging kit that I wish I had sooner when I took my iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods with wireless charging case, and iPad Pro on a week-long trip. That means 4 different plugs are needed to charge everything at once. I was in Europe and only had an EU adapter. My hotel has a US outlet by the bed, but that still means swapping items. Hardware Specifications
The wire-connected dock (with USB-C) has room for an Apple Watch (which can be charged in tablet or in bedside table mode), a MagSafe puck for your iPhone, and a Qi charging pad for your AirPods Pro.
Design and Features
Packed in a grey felt carrying case that is closed with a button and an elastic band, has three compartments, and each is a perfect size. Has a USB-C<=>USB-C cable, a USB-C 20W adapter, and the aforementioned three-position charging platform. The platform is held together with magnets, so it folds quickly and unfolds easily. The 3.5-inch depth can accommodate a US 20-watt adapter, as well as a European version or Mophie’s foldable UK adapter. The 6.5″ x 3.5″ x 1.5″ carrying case fits easily into most bags.
Performance
From one power outlet, you can connect three things. While it might not be as fast as charging from three separate outlets, it’s a lot easier to carry and set up. Trust me, I have to keep looking at my phone until it’s full, and then change the watch adapter when the phone is full. A real pain.
The layout is very similar to Apple’s MagSafe Duo adapter, but adds space for the AirPods Pro, which requires another cable and charger. Apple’s offer is $129, but without the charger and cable. Each runs at a retail price of $20. To get all the functionality, you’ll need the extra MagSafe disc, as well as another cable and power brick. And you have to have a place in your hotel room to plug it in and charge your iPad or battery pack.
