The 64-year-old actor paid tribute to “the love of his life” after confirming her death on Thursday night.
Mr. Grant shared a video of him dancing with Joan, who had been married for 35 years, and then hugged her.
He wrote: “Only you! Joan-the love of my life and the life giver to our daughter Olivia. Losing your life last night, our hearts are broken. Married for 35 years, together 38 years.
“To be truly known and seen by you is an incalculable gift. Don’t forget us, dear Monkey-mine.”
Many people expressed their condolences in the comments.
Fearne Cotton wrote: “I am very sorry for your loss. Love, strength and prayers to you and Olivia.”
Actor Max Beasley said: “Oh, Richard. My deepest condolences. Sending you and Olivia a lot of love and strength. Joan is an amazing woman. I am sad to see this.”
Mr. Grant met vocal coach Joan in December 1982 while teaching an accent course at an acting school, and married her in 1986.

He previously told The Independent: “Before I got married, I had no reservations about it.
“My parents divorced when I was 11 years old. This has made such a deep impression on my life. I think I think I can avoid dividing my life in two without getting married. But this has changed.”
The couple have a daughter, Olivia, and Mr. Grant is Tom’s stepfather, and Tom is Joan’s ex-wife.
