DThe 7-day incidence of new crown infections nationwide has risen again. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Saturday morning, citing data from the health authorities, the value rose to 362.2, setting a new high for the 13th consecutive day. The incidence rate was 340.7 on Friday and 277.4 last Saturday.
The 7-day morbidity rate represents the number of new infections per 100,000 residents in 7 days. On November 8, the value exceeded the threshold of 200 for the first time, which was the highest level since the pandemic began. Since then, new highs have been set every day.
As RKI announced on Saturday, 63,924 new infections were registered nationwide in 24 hours. The number of deaths caused by the German pandemic increased by 248 to 98,987.
Station hospital
The federal and state governments have also set the incidence of hospitalizations as an important new benchmark for COVID-19 measures. This value indicates how many out of every 100,000 residents were hospitalized with corona infection within 7 days. According to RKI, the national hospitalization rate was 5.34 on Friday and 5.3 on Thursday. The rate of hospitalization for that day is usually only announced in the morning.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of registered infections in Germany is now 5,312,215. The number of people recovering from Covid-19 given by RKI is approximately 4,610,300.
There are still large regional differences in infection rates. In 16 counties, the 7-day incidence rate exceeds 1,000. In contrast, the incidence rate in 14 counties is less than 100.
The fifth wave?
RKI president Lothar Wiehler warned on Friday that there may be a fifth wave of outbreaks. If it is not possible to reduce the number of contacts and vaccinate more people, according to current model calculations, this will happen.
To curb the coronavirus pandemic, the Bundestag and Bundestag have just passed a new infection protection law. The amendment stipulates that workers and people on public transportation must be vaccinated against corona, recover from Covid-19, or test negative for the virus (3G rules). In addition, the federal states can retain measures such as mask requirements and exposure restrictions. Due to the large number of cases, Bavaria and Saxony have decided to cancel the Christmas market.
