review – I use my iPhone 13 Pro Max as my main (and only) camera. This is the review I use for all product photos, except for the photos that the iPhone needs to put in it. I also use my iPhone to capture memories when I go on vacation. I’ve tried accessories like iPhone lenses and gimbal over the years, but today I’m going to show you an accessory that combines a handle, shutter button, and wireless charger. This is the ShiftCam ProGrip. Let’s try it out!
What is it?
The ShiftCam ProGrip is a grip designed for smartphones, providing a DSLR-like grip for smartphones with added functionality.

Design and Features

I’m sure you’ve seen small Bluetooth shutter buttons for iPhones and other smartphones, but you haven’t seen a camera accessory as feature-rich as the ShiftCam ProGrip. This is a premium phone mount with a grip that reminds me of what it’s like to hold a DSLR.

The ProGrip portion of the ShiftCam is large, but its shape makes it very comfortable in the hand.
The phone holder has two spring-loaded jaws that open far enough for my iPhone 13 Pro Max Pitaka MagEZ Case Mounts easily in brackets. If your phone is on the smaller side, the ShiftCam includes spacers that you can attach to the jaws to make the stand narrower.

The palm area of the ProGrip has a status LED panel that displays battery level, charging status, Bluetooth connection status and wireless charging status.
The stand also has 2 small buttons. The top button is the Bluetooth pairing button, and the other toggles the wireless charging function.
The grip has an adjustable padded strap that provides some extra security when holding the phone.

There’s also a threaded socket on the top edge of the handle for the included cold shoe mount, which you can use to attach other accessories like lights and microphones to the ShiftCam ProGrip.

Flip the ShiftCam ProGrip over to see the bottom and you’ll find the USB-C charging port and tripod socket.

As mentioned, the ProGrip is large, but feels very comfortable in the hand thanks to the soft plastic faux leather covering the fingers, palm and thumb.

The shutter button is conveniently located below the area where the index finger normally rests. Note that pressing the shutter button while the ShiftCam ProGrip is off will automatically turn it on.
The shutter button will take a photo each time the button is pressed, or if the button is held down, on iPhone it will take a video until you release the button, on Android phones it will switch to burst photo capture mode. If you manually put the phone into video mode, pressing the button will start and stop recording on the iPhone, and I’m assuming it will do the same for Android.

In the image above, you can see a case inserted into the case of my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Getting your phone in and out of your phone takes a little skill, but it’s not that hard.

You can download a special app that helps you know exactly where to place your phone in the ProGrip so that the ProGrip’s built-in Qi wireless charging pad aligns correctly with your phone. I don’t even need the app on my iPhone. It works immediately.

Another great feature of the ShiftCam ProGrip is that the stand can be rotated 90 degrees, allowing you to use your phone in portrait mode in addition to landscape mode.

The stand rotates with a ratchet-like feel and sound, but it’s easy to do and feels sturdy.

Your phone feels balanced and secure in either orientation.

You can even use the handle as a stand for your phone in portrait orientation…

…and landscape. When wireless charging is enabled, it will quickly charge your phone in either direction. You can also use the USB-C port to charge a second device.

final thoughts
The ShiftCam ProGrip is a Bluetooth shutter button on steroids. It’s great that it allows you to comfortably and securely hold your smartphone in either orientation when taking photos or videos, but when you add a cold shoe accessory and wireless charging, the ProGrip is great for anyone using their phone Said both are a great accessory to have a smartphone as their main and only camera.
