Review – I have been looking for the “perfect” transparent protective case with Magsafe for my iPhone 12 Pro. I found that the original Apple transparent case with Magsafe was too slippery and the buttons were too hard. Would Smartish Gripmunk with Magsafe Slim Case be better?
what is it?
Gripmunk with Magsafe Slim Case is available in black (left) and transparent (right). Smartish calls these models “Black Tie Affair” and “Nothing To Hide”.
Except for the color, both cases are the same. I will delve into the Nothin To Hide model.
Hardware specifications
Gripmunk has “super grip side” with protective air pocket corners. In addition, the ring contains embedded magnets for Magsafe charging.
Design and features
Installation is very simple. The material is quite flexible.
After opening the case, I noticed a very faint dimple pattern on the back of the case. I believe this can prevent the back of the phone from sticking to the transparent material, causing a kind of “sticky”.
Another interesting feature is the frosted edges. I didn’t expect it, but I like it. The texture provides extra grip for the phone.
If you look closely, there are carved ridges on the side of the case. It feels so good in your hand!
Of course, the party trick I am interested in is Magsafe. Yes, you can get a box without magnets, Magsafe will still work, but you will not get a strong grip.
If you don’t like Magsafe charging, the bottom cutout is large enough for most Lightning cables, including Smartish Crown Joule with reversible lighting and USB-C terminal (Sold separately)
This is not the thickest case I have tried, but I measured it to make sure. It is 4.15 mm thicker than the bare metal iPhone 12 Pro, or 2.08 mm on each side.
what do I like
- Textured side
- Contour grip
- Not too bulky, nor too thin. It’s between the two.
What will i change
- The side buttons are not as difficult as Apple’s transparent case, but it might be better.
