VoltA series of suspected fraudulent emails were sent from a server belonging to the US Federal Police FBI on Saturday. The FBI confirmed a corresponding report by the cybersecurity organization Spamhaus. Therefore, in the early hours of Saturday morning, a large number of fake e-mails were sent in two batches from an address on an online portal used by multiple government agencies.
Some of these emails were sent on behalf of the FBI’s cyber threat detection department. Their headline is: “Emergency: Threat Actors in the System”. The recipient was warned that they had become the target of a “complex” hacker attack by the well-known extortion group.
The US authorities only stated that they were aware of the “incident.” “This is a long-standing problem, and we are currently unable to provide any further information.” The affected hardware has been removed from the network.
