Ingredients and Substitutes
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for taco dip, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see recipe card below.
Meat layer:
The base of the taco dip is the taco meat, I use the same Taco Salad:
- minced meat – I used ground beef, but you can also use Pressure Cooker Shredded Chickenground pork, ground turkey, or Mexican Chorizo for this recipe.
- taco seasoning – I like to do it myself Homemade Seasoned Taco。 It takes just 5 minutes and is made with simple pantry staples: paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne.but one store bought A packet of taco seasoning would work too.
Cream Cheese Layer:
I made this taco dip with cream cheese, sour cream, and a little taco seasoning:
- Plain Cream Cheese – Make sure your cream cheese is soft at room temperature. Otherwise, it won’t blend smoothly with the sour cream.
- sour cream – Instead of sour cream, you can use mayonnaise (with a little white or apple cider vinegar for flavor) or plain Greek yogurt.
- taco seasoning
Ingredients:
You can customize the toppings to your liking, but here are the most classic options, as well as others:
- Iceberg lettuce – You can also try swapping the traditional shredded lettuce for leafy alternatives such as shredded kale, cabbage (or even Taco Salad!), or spinach.
- cheddar cheese – You can use Monterey Jack cheese, pepper jack cheese, mozzarella cheese, a Mexican cheese blend, or any shredded cheese you like. Use pre-shredded to save time.
- Bell Pepper – Use green, red, orange, and even Roasted Red Peppers If you have some on hand.
- roma tomatoes – You can also dice cherry or grape tomatoes.
- onion – I used red onions, but you can use white, yellow, or shallots.
- black olives – Taste the green olives.
- coriander – If you don’t like cilantro, you can leave out the cilantro, or try parsley, chives, or scallions.

Foods to Serve with the Taco Dip Recipe
I personally like to add extra veggies when I can, so I like to use bell pepper strips to scoop up this layer of dip. But in fact, there is no wrong way to eat. Here are some ideas:
- chips – Potato chips or nachos are the traditional dipping choice, but you can also make your own Almond Flour Nachos Low carb options. This dip is also suitable for Air Fryer Zucchini Chips or crispy Cheese Chips.
