- smoked paprika – If you don’t have this spice, you can quickly substitute 2 parts regular paprika and 1 part cumin.
- sea salt – Salt is a key ingredient in dry rubs, as it helps lock moisture in the meat. Fine or coarse salt is fine.
- garlic powder – very important in almost any savory seasoning recipe.
- Black pepper – You can use other kinds of peppers to vary the flavor if you like.
- chili – Red pepper flakes, paprika or paprika can also be substituted for paprika.
