Tommy, an old mule rescued in Undercliff Pony Rescue, British rye, was stabbed in the face during a random attack on Monday.
According to the BBC, This twenty-year-old mule has recovered in the center for two years, and after years of neglect and abuse before being rescued, he has only just begun to trust humans.
Sharon Baker, the owner of the rescue clinic, told the BBC that after the attack, Tommy had a hole in his cheek and several teeth were lost.
“We can heal wounds, but mental scars take a long time,” she told the BBC.
She added: “This person really needs to be caught and taken away.”
According to reports, the local police are investigating the incident, and a resident offered a reward of 20,000 rand for information that led to the arrest of the attacker.
Baker said that when Tommy was sent to the rescue clinic, he had “zero trust in humans.” “It wasn’t until the last six months that he really allowed you to touch him.”
According to reports, Tommy began accepting carrots from passers-by in the past six months, showing a very hopeful degree of trust. Baker believes that, unfortunately, someone has abused this newly established trust.
“Someone lured him to the fence and thought it would be funny to stab him in the face,” she told the BBC.
Although it is unclear what the motive is, the rescue center is raising funds to pay for Tommy’s treatment and installing CCTV cameras near the attack site.
