review – Most good parties have two things in common, loud music and colorful lights. The Tronsmart Bang is a portable Bluetooth speaker that does both. I recently had a chance to check it out. Here are my thoughts on whether it lives up to the moniker as a party speaker.

What is it?

The Tronsmart Bang is a portable bluetooth speaker with high-resolution audio, LED party lights, and the ability to sync audio across 100+ speakers.

Design and Features

The Tronsmart Bang Bluetooth speaker is beautifully designed with a fixed handle and multi-function control buttons in the upper right corner. The wide handle makes it easy to grip and move, giving the speaker portability.

On the back of the speaker, there are multiple ports covered by a waterproof flap. There’s a USB-A port, a Type-C charging port, an Aux-in port, and a TF/SD card slot. The speaker also has a built-in power bank to charge your device.

The Tronsmart Bang weighs about 6.5 pounds, which is pretty heavy. But when you pick it up, it feels like a premium speaker, bringing a slightly premium feel to the design.

Rubber pads on the bottom of the speaker prevent it from sliding and scratching the surface.

The speaker has an IPX6 rating, which means it’s waterproof, not waterproof.

Bang’s unique design lies in the integrated LED lights. There’s an LED light bar on the front, and halo LEDs on each end of the speaker. Tronsmart does a great job integrating lights into the design, so they don’t look cheap or out of place.

You can choose from 7 different solid colors, or set the LEDs to beat to the beat of the music.

Battery

15 hours of battery life is pretty good. However, when the LED is on, it drops to 8 hours. Tronsmart Bang speakers also have an auto-off feature that will turn off the speakers if they are inactive for more than an hour. The charging time is a bit long, 4.5 hours. I like that it charges using USB-C, but the supplied charging cable could be longer.

The speakers have what Tronsmart calls TuneConn technology. TuneConn allows you to sync audio between up to 100+ speakers at the push of a button. So you can daisy-chain multiple speakers together for even more party fun.

Tronsmart app

The Tronsmart app allows you to personalize your speaker experience. The app is pretty basic, but it does allow you to change equalizer settings, LED color modes, and playback modes. The app is also where you can update the firmware and view the user manual.

sound performance

Billed as a portable party speaker, the Tronsmart Bang lives up to its expectations. For its size, this speaker is very loud. The best part is that it gets loud without distortion when playing most small speakers at high volume. I didn’t experience any harmonic distortion even at over 50% volume. And the sound quality is very good at lower volumes. It also handles all types of music well, from rock and hip-hop to jazz and classical. I love listening to jazz, and I’m delighted with how this speaker handles the pleasant tones of two of my favorites, Art Pepper and Chet Baker.

You can use 8 equalizer presets to fine-tune any type of music you’re listening to. To me, the Tronsmart’s Sound Pulse audio setting sounds the best. It brings an overall lift and warmth to the music, which I find enjoyable. I would like to be able to set my own personal EQ settings.

A peek under the hood reveals that the speakers are powered by dual tweeters and dual woofers. Not a lot of bass as there is no powered woofer, but I think it’s good enough for most people.

The overall sound quality of the Tronsmart Bang speakers is excellent. There is no doubt that Bang is meant to be played loudly. But that’s not a bad thing.

what do I like

  • Smart Design
  • Integrated multi-function LED light
  • Good sound quality, especially at high volumes
  • easy to use app
  • Good overall battery life

what would i change

  • longer charging cable
  • Ability to make your own EQ settings

final thoughts

As a budget-friendly party speaker, the Tronsmart Bang can definitely do it. It’s loud enough for outdoor parties, pool parties and picnics. But it has good enough overall sound quality to use as your everyday Bluetooth speaker.
