I have always been a fan of this Withings smart scale. Being able to track my weight over months and years has greatly helped my weight loss and subsequent bulk/weight loss cycles.
I started with Body+, which provides a good balance of data and affordability, and in my opinion is the most suitable for most users.
However, I checked Body Cardio and continued to use it, which gave me a better understanding of my general heart health and vascular age.
At the 2022 International Consumer Electronics Show, Withings introduced more advanced new models and expanded the product range.
Segmented body composition-how much fat and muscle do you have in your arms and legs
Withings Body Scan adds a retractable handle with four stainless steel electrodes that can measure ECG and segmented body composition.
Body composition includes fat, water, arms, legs, and trunk muscles.
There are some controversies about the accuracy of electrical impedance body composition measurement, but it is your best choice as a home user unless you are willing to start caliper measurements on your skin, and most gyms use the same technology.
More accurate ECG measurement than smart watches

The new handle also allows weight scales to provide ECG measurements, which has been very popular in wearable devices in the past few years. This measurement can detect arrhythmia through two sets of electrodes on both sides of the handle and a set of electrodes on the bottom of the sales. With this design, it should provide higher accuracy compared to smart watches.
Like many Wearable device with ECG function, You don’t need to know the charts it generates. The scale uses algorithms to detect heart patterns related to atrial fibrillation and displays the results on the display or Withings’ Health Mate app.
Monitor nerve activity
Body Cardio introduces two unique functions, namely pulse wave velocity and the age of the blood vessel using this data.
They introduced another new feature for body scanning. It can use small direct current to track the activity of sweat glands in the feet (sweat-promoting function) through electrodes located on the board to assess nerve activity. The function impaired in this area may show signs of degeneration of small nerve fibers, which can be corrected by regular activity and a healthy diet.
Other upgrades
I don’t remember how often I charge my Body Cardio. I’m sure I’ve only charged it once since my review, but the new scale provides a one-year recharge interval compared to the 9 months of the old model.
There is also a new larger, higher-resolution 3.2-inch LCD color display that can provide more feedback to the device itself.
Withings also claims that these scales are twice as accurate as old scales, with an accuracy of 50g.
Subscription service
Withings will also launch a subscription service. It sounds like this should be optional, not a shielding function.
It will allow users to contact medical experts for advice and consultation, while providing data to the clinical team in real time. You will also get personalized health plans and videos to help improve nutrition, stress and sleep issues.
Price and availability
Withings Body Scan is expected to be available in the second half of this year. The long wait seems to be due to the nature of the product and they need FDA approval (in the US).
It is expected to sell for $300, which is $100 higher than the release price of Body Cardio.
In the UK, Body Cardio has a suggested retail price of 130 pounds, and currently only sells for 104 pounds
