Covid-19: U.S. cases hit a six-month high as the country recorded more than 100,000 new infections-Statistics

The Covid-19 infection rate in the United States is even higher.

  • The number of new Covid-19 cases in the United States has reached a six-month high.
  • This is after 100,000 new infections were reported on Wednesday.
  • Delta variants are destroying multiple areas.

According to Reuters statistics, the new Covid-19 cases reported in the United States on Wednesday reached a six-month high and the number of infections exceeded 100,000, as the Delta variant ravaged areas where people were not vaccinated.

Reuters data as of Wednesday showed that the country reported more than 94,819 cases in an average of seven days, a five-fold increase in less than a month. The 7-day average best describes the rate of increase in cases, as some states only report infections once a week or only on working days.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top US infectious disease expert, said on Wednesday that in the next few weeks, due to the highly contagious Delta variant, cases may double to 200,000 cases per day.

Fauci said in an interview with McClatchy: “If another virus with the same high transmission capacity but a more serious virus appears, then we are really in trouble.”

“People who haven’t been vaccinated mistakenly think it’s just about them. But that’s not the case. It’s also about everyone else.”

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Delta variant was first discovered in India and accounted for 83% of all new cases reported in the United States.

Vaccination rates vary widely, ranging from 76% of Vermont residents who received the first dose to 40% in Mississippi. Opinion polls show that Republicans are far less likely to be vaccinated than Democrats.

According to the White House Covid-19 Response Team, unvaccinated people account for nearly 97% of severe cases.

Analysis shows that the number of deaths as a lagging indicator has risen by 33% in the past week, with an average of 377 deaths per day.

Florida

The southern states have the lowest vaccination rates in the country, but the largest number of reported Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations. According to Reuters analysis, Florida, Texas and Louisiana reported the highest total number of new cases in the region last week.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Florida has become a hotbed of new infections across the country, setting a severe hospitalization record on Thursday, with 12,373 confirmed Covid-19 patients in its hospital.
