When the kitchen becomes an ice cream machine

widthThere is something that always excites me in summer, and that is ice cream. There is always a place in my stomach, even if I refuse the last leftovers from the barbecue beforehand. When vanilla ice cream is too light, popsicles hyped on Instagram taste unnatural, or when you lose your appetite at the cash register, the disappointment is even greater: $1.90 per scoop (e.g. Glockenbachviertel in Munich) is a bit steep and sold. The prices on the kiosk ice cream menu are also lower-right?

Only one thing helps: make yourself better. Unfortunately, my first Google search for recipes proved to be a mistake in the past few years: the quick version with condensed milk and sugar crumbs was not only too sweet, but also melted faster than I could eat. Despite the eager stirring, the more delicate chocolate and cream ice cream still flakes and is sprinkled with ice crystals. I forgot to freeze the juice after the first try and only found it in the refrigerator a few months later. This also shows how effective this ice cream is.

True: ice machines can help. But another expensive device will occupy half a year in the closet? Not certainly. It’s time for the last try, this time with professional guidance. The ice cream course is provided by “BakeNight”, a start-up company from Berlin that bake or prepare ice cream under supervision. To this end, two recipes are provided, and the course managers accompany the preparation work, provide hints and answer questions. I chose a variant of the stick ice cream: the course photos at least guarantee an Instagram-compatible result, which is now almost half the battle.

Due to the corona, the course will not be conducted in the pastry shop etc. as usual, but will be conducted through the enlarged home kitchen. The night before, I went on a shopping spree: a stroll in the supermarket was enough. I needed all kinds of things from the fruit and vegetable department, juice, tea and dairy products. At first glance, the shopping list looks very long, but I already have a lot in my house, such as tea, cream cheese, salt or honey. I found that the ice molds in the household goods store are very cheap. Or, of course, you can order it on the Internet or improvise: muffin molds or empty yogurt jars made of silicone are also suitable, and straws or spoons can be used as sticks for other purposes. Just let the ice freeze for an hour and then insert it.
